Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL) is in McGEA represented by one of its organic unit, ITQB NOVA, which is a leading research centre for the chemical and life sciences in Portugal, and a major international resource for basic and applied research.
UNL team, composed of several research groups, brings to McGEA the expertise in:
- production, genetic engineering and structural characterization of redox enzymes,
- rational and directed evolution engineering of metalloenzymes for development of cost-effective biocatalysts for industrial biotechnology,
- tailored approaches that combine genetics, biochemical and biophysical tools to study metalloenzymes that include DyP peroxidases, hydrogenases, FDHs, b) the biogenesis of heme enzymes, c) whole cells that undertake bioremediation,
- surface enhanced resonance Raman (SERR) spectroscopy and spectro-electrochemistry for the studies of immobilized metalloenzymes,
- biosensors, bioelectrocatalysis and biovoltaics.
